There’s something so special about photographing those final few weeks before a new baby arrives.

When I met Georgia for her maternity photoshoot at her home in Kings Worthy, just outside Winchester, she was around 37 weeks pregnant — right at that stage where meeting her baby was beginning to feel very close.

A relaxed maternity photoshoot at home

Maternity photography doesn’t need to feel overly posed or formal. My approach is always to keep things relaxed and natural, creating space for those little in-between moments as well as some beautiful portraits of this incredible stage of motherhood.

Having a maternity photoshoot at home can be particularly lovely. There’s no need to travel anywhere when you’re heavily pregnant, everything you might need is close by, and being in your own surroundings helps the session feel much more comfortable and personal.

For Georgia’s session in Kings Worthy, we kept everything simple and natural, focusing on her and her bump and capturing this fleeting moment before life changed again.

When is the best time for maternity photos?

Georgia was around 37 weeks pregnant when we photographed her session. Every pregnancy is different, but maternity photoshoots will often take place during the third trimester, when your bump is beautifully defined but before your due date gets too close.

That said, there really isn’t one perfect time. If you’re further along and suddenly realise you’d love photographs of your pregnancy, it’s absolutely still worth getting in touch.

Who should be part of your maternity photoshoot?

Your maternity session can be completely tailored to you. It can be just you and your bump, giving us plenty of time to capture some beautiful, relaxed portraits of you during your pregnancy.

You can also bring your partner into the session for some more intimate photographs together, or, if this isn’t your first baby, get the whole family involved.

I particularly love including older siblings in maternity sessions. It turns the shoot into part maternity session, part family session, capturing not only your pregnancy but your family exactly as it is in those final weeks before somebody new joins it.

There are no rules about who needs to be in the photographs. We can create a mixture of you on your own, you and your partner, you with your children and everyone together — keeping everything informal, relaxed and natural.

Natural maternity photography in Winchester

My maternity sessions are designed for anyone who wants beautiful photographs of their pregnancy without feeling like they have to perform for the camera.

You don’t need to know how to pose or what to do with your hands. I’ll gently guide you where needed, but the aim is always for the finished photographs to still feel like you — warm, natural and timeless.

Pregnancy can feel incredibly long while you’re in it (been there!), but once your baby arrives, it suddenly becomes a chapter that has already passed. Having photographs from those final weeks gives you something tangible to look back on and remember what it felt like when they were still tucked safely inside.

If you’re expecting a baby and looking for a maternity photographer in Winchester, Alresford or across Hampshire, I’d love to hear from you. My maternity photoshoots can take place in the comfort of your own home or outdoors in the beautiful Hampshire countryside, creating relaxed and natural photographs that capture this very special stage of your family’s story.
