There are some locations that are beautiful simply because of the view, and others that mean *so much* more.

For this gorgeous family, these fields overlooking Winchester and the South Downs are both.

Years ago, before babies this was the place where Mum and Dad got engaged. Coming back here as a family of four made this shoot feel particularly special — revisiting a place that holds such an important part of their story, but this time with their two children running alongside them.

And what a beautiful day it was.

We wandered through the long grass, stopping whenever the children wanted to explore. We chatted about fairies, paused for snacks and gave them plenty of time to simply be themselves. There was no pressure to stand still or smile at the camera. Instead, they ran through the fields, cuddled Mum and Dad, played together and soaked up all that space around them.

This is exactly what I love about outdoor family photography. Children don't need to perform for the camera. Some of my favourite photographs happen in those little moments in between — a hand reaching for Mum's, a spontaneous cuddle, windswept hair, a burst of laughter or everyone piling together when little legs need a rest.

Against the backdrop of the rolling Hampshire countryside, we captured a gallery full of love, happiness and connection. The views across Winchester and towards the South Downs were incredible, but it was the four of them together that really made these photographs.

I also love that these images have added another chapter to the story of this particular place. Somewhere that once marked the beginning of their life together now holds memories of their children racing through the grass, talking about fairies and stopping for snacks along the way.

For me, that's what family photography is really about.

Not creating a picture-perfect version of your family, but capturing what this season of your life actually feels like — the personalities, the relationships, the chaos, the laughter and all those tiny moments you don't necessarily realise you'll miss.

If you're considering a family photoshoot in Winchester, you don't need to choose somewhere grand or complicated. A favourite walk, a field you visit together or somewhere that already holds memories for your family can make the most beautiful backdrop.

And when a place already means something to you, the photographs become even more special.
